D had some business round Aldgate way (nothing shady, he assures me), so I headed off to meet him for dinner after he’d finished. It turns out we both had the same awesome idea of where to go: Tayyabs! (great minds, etc). Unfortunately there was a queue as long as an NHS operation waiting list so despite my dismay at missing out on some of the best grilled meats in London, D turned my frown upside down by saying he ‘knew a little place round the corner that was just as good if not better.’ I admit I was sceptical at first, especially when faced with another queue, but once through the doors at this mystical place, known as Needoo, we managed to get sat pretty quickly by the window.

I left the ordering in D’s skilled hands, and the table was soon piled high with mouthwateringly delicious grilled meats; we had chicken tikka, lamb chops, mutton tikka, shami kebabs, a rather odd kebab roll, several popadoms, and then shared a small chickpea and lamb curry. With our BYO wine, it came in at less than £20 each. And on a freezing cold night, the spicy, intensely flavoured meat was just what was needed.
